Internet Marketing and Women Buying Behavior
Internet Marketing has changed the way people buy and sell good and service. It has added lot of convenience and easy to the whole process of buying. Internet buying prevalence is highest in the United States, where 93% of Internet users have bought on-line (Business Software Association, 2002), and it is growing rapidly in India as well (www.ebay.com).
Until a few years ago, surveys of Internet users reported that men greatly outnumbered women. There were more of them, they used the Internet more frequently and for longer than female users, and for a greater variety of reasons (Morahan-Martin, 1998). More recent surveys in the United States indicate that the gender gap has disappeared; there are now equal numbers of men and women Internet users (Pew Internet and American Life, 2003).
In India too the women are becoming more style conscious. We have a new bread of females who have mastered the art of buying armed with increased disposable income due to recognition and position in the corporate world.
So, as an internet marketing website owner have you ever thought as to how a women looks at your website? Would a woman be equally eager to shop on your website as are the men? What are the things you should incorporate to make your website more lucrative and user friendly to women?
Given that men and women have been shown to differ in their attitudes toward both the Internet and shopping it is mandatory for a web marketing website designer to addresses this gender differences in on-line buying behavior.
There are a few things that an internet marketing website owner should keep in mind
- Women buy with there heart and mind both. However, in many case the heart is able to overpower the head. Nevertheless, don’t be misled with the above mentioned fact. She wants detailed information about product benefits and ingredients. In many cases, she would like to know, what if she does not like the product or service before even trying it.
- Never use the same tone with a man and women. Women would buy a product only if you are able to convince her that you are on her side. Never forget the Dale Carnegie rule that says, "People want to know how much you care before they care about how much you know."
- The fist thing that a woman would look for is convenience. Make sure your website is easy to navigate and has related links. Therefore, if you are selling clothes on your website don’t forget to add matching hand bag and shoes :-)
- Women are loyal customer so make sure you do not loose touch with them. A regular update on what is new and offers is necessary to keep the loyal woman customer coming back to you.
- Create a Niche for the woman buyer. Woman like being treated as a better race then males.
